Because the Primo prides itself on traditional cooking, only pure charcoal lump (no briquettes; no gas) is used for fuel. This allows the integrity of the food to be enhanced by the subtlety of the smoke, resulting in a food experience unknown in the world of metal grilling.

Because of the unique, heat-retentive properties of the ceramic, true"low and slow" barbecues, requiring cooking times up to 20 hours at temperatures as low as 200 degrees, are easily accomplished with the Primo.
